    software shop layout

    Hey All,
Sorry I haven't beeeeen around much...working on-site means I can't get her quite so much (clients don't like it!!)

I've been setting up a small website that will be part of my company website Brandstar UK Limited but it will sell the software that we recommend. Starting mainly with AVG Anti-Virus products and also a BackupTool that I think is genius!

Would really like your thoughts on the site brandstar shop, it is a Wordpress Template with a basic shop module and a free template. I don't have the budget to get a design done just yet.

If you came across the site would you have the confidence to buy from the site? If not what could I add to build users confidence

Site is only just gone up really so it is early days and wanted to get some opinions

    Cheers guys!

    Graham.

The look of it is not too bad...To me it doesn't really look like a shop though...It looks more like a review blog site...

I'd be inclined to have a "Home" page that said what the site is, what it does etc. then a "Products" page that gives a list of products with a small amount of detail on each and then a seperate detailed page for each product..

ie more like an online shop normally looks...

I also had a small issue with IE6 in that the product pictures were shifted slightly off the screen to the left.

    Hope that helps.

Yeap...See the attached image. There's too much scrolling...you need some paging on this.

    Hey RR,
Thanks for the reply...yes I was worried that it didn't look enough like an ecommerce site...kinda why I posted here tbh. Will have to look for a different template and see if that helps..

As for the home page...ironically the about page that is there was a home page until minutes before I started this thread...but I changed it to the about page mainly because I thought the front page/first page visitors hit should have products on it.....

    Thanks for the reply...anyone else?

    Grae

p.s. ie6...they should be banned from the internet anyway or a more serious response would say if I change the template that might change too...

Thank JMH...so I see. I will look at changing the template and then see if that problem still occurs and address it then I think.

Re the Pagination, turned on and limited to 3 products a page...still too many?

    cheers guys.

If you make the text smaller so that it doesn't stretch the page down so far, that would be good. Remember, if you make the font relative to the page, users can their text size in the browser settings. I have mine set to medium, the default, at that text just seems too large for that setting. Maybe a different font as well. Using em instead of px usually helps with this because it adapts to the browser text-size setting.

As far as IE6...I agree...but nothing I can do about it at work :\

May I suggest doing something like this:

Newegg.com - Anti-Virus Software, Anti-Spyware, Spyware Remover, Security Software, Software Utilities

I'm kind of partial to the horizontal listing (as well as vertical) - but notice how you can showcase the one you really want to sell

    Hey all,

Thanks for the link to newegg. That is where I would like to get to eventually but at the moment I don't think I have enough products to have a 'proper' shop like that!!

I have removed the gear image and the text that was near it to bring the first product further up the page ...as that should help prevent too much scrolling.

I'll have a look at the text changes suggested. It is just a template I implemented but Wordpress has a nice way of editing the CSS so I willl play! (and probably break it... )

    Cheers.

    Graham.

I'm Back!! hehe. Been working on the site taking into account your suggestions...can't do everything but found a much better template for what I need...i think.

    brandstar shop

What do you think? There is less scrolling and a cleaner theme. I am working on some ideas for a logo or at least an icon...

Could someone check on IE6? I don't have it on my machines

    Thanks guys. Happy Easter

    Graham.
