    Handling SubTotal Formatting in Matrix

    Hi Gurus,

I have created an Matrix based report, which also displays the subtotal values of the data provided.

Now, I want to know, how to do formatting for the SubTotals (col as well as row level) as it by default carries the formatting of the data part of Matrix. i.e. What ever the color of the data part is that same would be applied to the SubTotal values as well, I want to display the same in some different color/size/font. How do I get this done?

    Pls. guide.

    Regards,
    ~Harish

There's a little green triangle in the corner of the total textbox (as shown in the step 1 picture attached). If you click that once, you'll see a subtotal property pane (shown in step 2 picture attached) where you can change the format of the subtotals. I did this in SSRS 2003, but it should also work in 2005.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks a lot.

The way you shown to me did work for me. Even though I am able to do the formatting for the subtotal on Rows, but the same is not getting effective on the subtotals of cols.

    Any idea on this?

The green triangular mark should appear in both the row subtotal and the column subtotal. So you will have to format both of them repeating the same process. Give that a try, and if you run into issues, just let me know (and take a screenshot if you can).

    Hopefully this helps!

    Hi,

I did work as you suggested and did the formatting apply on both col and rows side using the individaul green arrow available on the sub total boxes.

The formatting for rows works, but for the cols. it didn't get applied. You can check the attached pictures for the same.

As you can see the prop.jpg is showing the text color is set to Maroon, wherease the result for the same is displayed as the format set to the data cells.

Pls. guide where to look to resolve this.

That's interesting. I did some testing, and determined that the setting works fine for me, but I also realize that I may not have been quite specific enough. When you click on the green triangle, click only once. I tried clicking twice (as is usual) and ended up getting the heading textbox instead of the subtotal. On your properties pane, the title should say "Subtotal". If it does not, then you are not formatting the correct item.

I'll attach an image for you so you can see what I mean.

That what exactly I did in my sample as well. As you can see the title pane of the property says "SubTotal" and then the color applied to text is "Maroon". Though these settings does not get affected on the output.

For Row the same settings works but Im not able to find the cause, why does it not get affected for the Cols as well.

You always bring me the tough questions harish

The first thing I would try is choosing another color, but it sounds to me like you ran into a bug. You are clicking the upper right hand cells' green triangle right? There are two subtotal cells, one for the rows and another for the columns. If you have done all that then you have stumped me

What should I say on this now!

I did exactly how you explained to me.

Would again try to do the same on some other sample.

Yeah give it a try on a test report and see if that works. Then at least you'll know if it's the report or something else.

    Good luck!
