These two are optional, but important:
A. Own your own domain (i.e. www.mydomain.com)
B. Host your site on a reliable server
  1. Shorten the title to 55 characters
  2. Add the robots tag
  3. Place the robots.txt in the root of your server
  4. Dispose of the JavaScript in your code and place it in an external file
  5. Use CSS instead of color, size and font tags
  6. Change the link buttons or JavaScript links to text links
  7. Ensure you have a site map
  8. Ensure you have a 404 erorr page
  9. Ensure your page code is not larger than 100 K
  10. Submit your site to ODP and Yahoo directories and ensure you select the right categories
  11. Pay special attention to your content
  12. Try to get as many relevant links as you can
  13. Reach each search engine guidelines and follow them strictly
  14. Don't spam
  15. Don't use doorway pages
  16. Don't cloak
