    Delayed Response when Pinging

We have a simple wireless network in the office. All PCs have static IP addresses and all are on the same subnet.

One of our PCs, running Vista Business, has a huge delayed response when I try and ping the router. The average response time is between 140 and 180 ms.

If I try another desktop on the same network, running Win XP, I get an average response of 1ms. If I ping from home over a VPN I still get a response time around 65ms.

The Vista desktop is as Dell Vostro 200 - Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, 2GB RAM. It also has a Dell internal wireless card (Broadcom 802.11g). This is the only thing I can think of that could be causing the massive delay. The other PCs on the network run D-Link and the like wireless cards.

I've turned off all firewalls and antivirus and there's no improvement in the response time. I also can't ping the Vista desktop from another desktop on the same network and it won't connect to a networked printer.

Any ideas what might be causing this or ideas on how to fix it?

    Thanks

Unistall it, i've heard of similar problems with McAfee, and vista.

See what happens, the ping response might go through the roof.

First of all, change the static IP address and verify the gateway is the same. (Just in case) Ping the router

Secondly, we need to determine whether this is hardware or software.

Take an ethernet cable, plug it directly into the router, disable the wireless and set up a static ip address (a different number) for the onboard nic, and then ping the router.

Yep, double checked the IP settings. The desktop can get on the internet and access shared documents, it's just very slow and the ping response time is horrendous.

Gonna try a network cable tomorrow to see if it is the wireless that's causing it...Problem is no free network points so going to have to disconnect his phone to try it...

Other problem is the desktop is in our office (170 miles away)...6 hour round trip for me...

Yep. I've tried another PC and it's response time is about 1-2ms

The router is running on channel 12

What wireless standard? B/G/N? Does the desktop support the same?
