    Install software over network

    Hi All,

I've never done this before so not sure how it should be done....this is all on internal network.

I have admin permissions on server but its in another city and I have a CR 8.5 cd that I would like to get install on it, how can this be done?

    Thanks for your suggestions!

Use can use Group Policy to deploy software across a Windows network. See the following Google search use gpo to deploy software

This might be an off the wall suggestion, but I've done it. Get a program called VirtualCloneDrive, which allows you to mount a ISO image (such as a CD-ROM) as a network drive. Then, rip the install CD to crate a ISO file on a shared network device. Then, remote to the server and mount the CD as a Virtual Drive and run the install from there.

I guess the question is, are you installing to one computer, or many at the same time? For distributing to many at the same time, then you will want to do what jmh said. If you have just one computer across the network you are going to, I would do it like Wolffy suggested. If you want to do it one at a time for many computers, wolffy style, create a network share, and drop the iso there and then mount from each computer you're installing from.

Then there's another method, but it requires you to have extreme knowledge of the force.

Another option is take CD in hand. Get on plane / in car. Travel to city where server located. Locate server. Place CD in drive. Install software.

Of course that assumes there is a CD drive installed on the server..

Buy only if the server is in a city that is worth going to, like Las Vegas. Not Detroit.

    RR, its nice in Texas!!!!

I like you're suggestion the best of all....but Lewisville is a couple hrs away (driving).

I'll only be installing the software on the server, no other pc's.

So, you have a server in another city. You want to install software on that server, and that server only from your remote location. A few ways to do it..... share the CD drive across the network, and map the drive, then run setup (probably easiest way). Share the drive and mount it from the server you want to install onto.... then run setup....

copy the contents of the drive to a local folder on the server and then run setup from the local folder; I do this often.
