Well, after looking more at W7, I'm now thinking it's more or less Vista SP2. At the risk of getting RF's knickers in a twist again , MS probably saw it as an opportunity to dump the Vista name.

I'm going to get a copy and give it go.

Like I said in a previous post..... Windows 7 has the look and feel of Vista. It's more stable, it's faster, and smaller. What does this tell us? That they took out some of the junk in the trunk.

Now, being in the medical profession side of IT, I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that there are a lot of medical database programs that are still incompatible with Vista to this day.

Every new version OS has pushed the limits of existing hardware platforms. Unfortunately Vista was way worse about upping the system requirements. That is why it took so long for manufacturers to embrace Vista. Vista is also annoying. If you ever watch the Mac commercials, they exploit the major flaws and complaints of Vista.

Lastly, it's going to take some time before we transition from a 32bit OS environment to a 64bit (both in apps and drivers). In the meantime, expect buggy OS's as they have to bridge between 32bit and 64bit.

The following are the buggy OS's I've encountered: Windows 95a, 98a, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, 7

The first releases are usually horrible. It takes awhile to fix driver bugs, security flaws, stability issues, and the like. I can remember having Win 2000 Pro (& Server), Asus Mobo, and an ATI video card. It took ATI 1 year to release the drivers for 2000.

I agree that there will be specific software/db's that have been developed that won't work on vista/7 because they have been redeveloped from the core...of course that isn't a bug just part of the OS progressing.

Win 7 is very similar to Vista...i'd say it is a refined version
