Default SQL Server 2008

Hi everyone,

Has anyone of you tried the latest SQL Server 2008? If yes, would you please comment on the product, the upside and downside, etc?

I have read the product review from Microsoft, but I am interested to get the actual experience from user. I understand that this product is still under Beta Phase and I love to try.

Where I work we still using SQL Server 2000 and in the process of moving to SQL Server 2005. So I can't say I have any experience with it. If you want to try it out, you can do the Virtual Labs here: Microsoft SQL Server 2008: Virtual Labs

Or you can download a trial: Microsoft SQL Server 2008: Trial Software

wow thanks a lot for the response.

have you tried to migrate your sql 2005 database to sql 2008 version? What do you think would be major disadvantage of using sql 2008?

Like I said, I haven't used 2008 yet, so I haven't migrated anything as of now. As far as advantages...check out the new features: New Features in SQL Server 2008

You should be able to make your decision from here

hi there,

after further investigation and recommendation from my host:, I wish to delay the upgrade of my SQL database. I will wait until the final release version of 2008 before doing such an upgrade.

Thank you very to you all, who has contributed to this thread.....

just an FYI the upgrade path is SQL 2000 -> 2005 -> 2008
You just can't upgrade from 2000 to 2008 directly, unless you move the dbs to a server with 2008 (whenever it's ready)
