    MS Excel - find setting

    Hi All,

Ok, I'm exporting data from asp to excel....well, when I do it...I can highlight some column data and see the sum at the bottom of excel but other some columns it will not do this, I believe there is a setting that is not allowing it, does anyone know of such setting and where to find it?

it's odd because I had some else do the same export and the columns that don't work on mine, work on his...and the ones that work on mine don't work on his. the currency values work on mine and on his they do not.

    Thanks!

I found one issue for the columns that weren't working on my machine...I had an space   after the rs("Field") on the asp code .

Typically this problem is caused by numbers being formatted as text or as you noted, non-breaking spaces added to the data. Did you surround your numbers with quotes? That may have something to do with it.

nope ... that's not surrounding the data with quotes. what's the code you're using to do this?

    Hey Mehere

ok, all the fields now work on my machine....so I'm guess its now a setting on his pc for excel.
I removed the &nbsp; from the following:
    Code:
    <TD bgcolor="#F4A460" align=center><%=rs("SQtr1")%>&nbsp;</TD>

I've tried turning off some stuff under Options but no luck, mine still works, so i may need to just sit the machines side by side

couldn't tell you ... if it works on yours and it's not working on his, it would appear to be some setting, but don't know which one(s).

The ONLY other thing I can think of that affects the ability to sum is manual or automatic calculation. Make sure it is set to automatically calculate. An easy way to check this is press F9 and see if it works all of the sudden.

Well heck, does he have the same browser version as you? That which works under IE6 may not under IE8 or FF.

    Hey W0lffy,

We should all have the same version because we're not allowed to upgrade, etc. as our machines are monitored closely.

But this is when we are opening the file in excel (.xls).
