Default Demo/tutorial/FAQ database

I have developed the attached Access database with the hope that it will be a useful resource for answering many questions that are frequently asked in this forum, as well as collect some general observations about using Access for various purposes, as well as demonstrate several useful techniques in Forms design.

I welcome suggestions and criticisms. If this database could be expanded with contributions from others, that would be fine. Also, I have no problem if anyone wishes to distribute this anywhere else, just please leave my copyright statement on the first page, if you do.

All I can say is, wow! This must have taken you quite some time to develop. Your code/structure/layout is impeccable. Of course, from you, I would expect that, and I mean that in the highest of regards.

The only thing I would suggest, is on the main form, that on the close button, make it docmd.quit, instead of docmd.close.

You can bet the farm that I'm going to refback to this database time and time again.

Heh, alot of my samples are forum question specific, and nowhere near this comprehensive. You have definitely set the bar for samples here. The beauty of this is, you don't have to search through the ever increasing list of database samples. I took the liberty of stickying this post. Unfortunately, a lot of people looking for answers rarely look at stickys.

Well, you can be sure that I will be racking my brain to come up with cool samples that are off the beaten path, but neat, none-the-less. I'm actually inspired by this sample.

Again, great job!

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement, benji. Looking at it one way, it took me maybe 10 or 12 hours spread over about a week and a half. Looking at it another way, it took me over 15 years of using and teaching Access!

On your suggestion of using Quit rather than Close, what I had in mind was to encourage people to close the main form, hit F11, and take a look at all the objects. Of course, they could still do that while the main form is open, too, but I just thought it would save having it close the database, which could confuse beginners and discourage them from looking further. I really want it to be a hands-on, open kimono demo for everyone.

There are several topics (I'm sure you noticed, but were kind enough not to mention) that I don't know a lot about and was therefore pretty vague about (one example is web databases--I've done dozens of data driven web pages, but with PHP and MySQL, except for one classic ASP page). I would love it if people who are well-informed on those subjects would write a few paragraphs or make a little demo (like maybe an advanced chooser, like you posted -- hint, hint!) that I could add in, along the same general format. I don't mind creating the actual pages, etc., if I have the words and examples. As it is, I had to research a few of the topics because I was a little shaky on them, too.
