Hi All,

Dont know where this question belongs but I'm putting it here.

My question is:
I need to have a way for users to select a location then view results, also, if they want to see info for a region they can do this too, or a global view. What would you recommend the menu page look like? I have too many locations to make buttons, so what would work better a list? a dropdown list?

I'm trying to get some suggestions/advice on maybe what has worked for you if you had this type of scenario and what would be easy for the users to navigate thru the app.

How about a Drop Down List, or tree view like:

+Global
+--+ Region 1
|    +--+ Location A
|    +--+ Location B
+--+ Region 2
     +--+ Location C
     +--+ Location D

Hi w0lffy,

Ok, so the Global and Region(s) would be links? is this how the user(s) will view by those view(s)? Just trying to make sure I understand.

Yup, everything you see there is a link.

but if global was clicked then it would go to the global view, so how do you get global to expand to see a region or a location?

also, you're tree view, have you done this in asp before?

I was thinking for of a drop down list like this.

In a tree, the glyph to the left of the name ( the + or -) would twiddle the tree, clicking on the name itself would follow the link.

And no, I'd hate to try this in classic ASP.

Ok, wasn't sure about if you could still click on name/link....cool.

this is i think kind of related to my other thread except this one wouldn't be in a table view.

any examples? suggestions?

I'll have to let someone else come up with this one -- ASP.NET would be way different than classic ASP. Basically I think the glyphs (the + or -) would be images while the text would be a hyperlink. Maybe hiding and unhinding some <div>'s when the glyph is clicked using some javascript.

maybe i can use the example link i put in my treeview thread...but i wasn't able to get it to work in a table but maybe i can do it with this.
