Since she does have experience with ASP programming and this is simply for displaying data, I'd say it's even safe to go with Classic ASP. Indeed, it only takes a few lines of code to display some data on a web page.

Yup..false assumption on my part. I remember now that @R knows her away around an ASP page -- go with that then.

These situations are hard to call, so much depends on the nature of the project and the experience of the developer. Any of our assessments might be the right answer in some situations and a disaster in others. The important thing to convey to Rebelle, I think, is that there are several options and it's very important to select the right one in her specific circumstances. No doubt that's why she asked us! But to provide an answer, we'd need to know at least 2 things: what her experience level is with ASP and/or .NET, and what these LAN users need to do: just view predetermined reports, or data entry, or construct their own queries, or what?

P.S. JMH, your point is well taken, about maintaining runtime software on clients' machines. And now I see that you guys already had some idea about Rebelle's ASP qualifications. Right on.

Yup, I'm going to second Don's second point (I'm in an agreeable mode today). To give the best answer possible to the technology question, one really must have the full skinny on the requirements -- alas, this is seldom the case
