Ok guys and gals...i know it's a tough one to place...but would having .htas have it's own spot...or is it preferred to be thrown into a code bank?....i can't seem to ever locate decent examples except a few here and there (MS script-o-matic) for example...thoughts?

I've never heard of those before but did a quick Google on the matter. Sounds interesting and I don't object to different content. I'm interested in hearing the thoughts of the other members.

What category would this call under?

that's what i mean...it's tricky.....it is an an actual application ....that uses ie as a 'canvas'...you can do wicked things with it...administrative stuff on server 2003 for example...btw...it DOES NOT use the ie as far as security restraints....making it extremely versatile/powerful...and of course...dangerous...it would be nice to have its own place...but it is a hybrid...html and application....but i can certainly get the ball rolling with stuff i created...guess wait and see other comments

Would this be classified as actual programming or something else? I'll create the forum just because I'm interested...and who knows, if it's so scarce, maybe we will get more visitors here.

it's pretty scarce because it's mostly used for admin stuff....most simply use a .vbs...but i tell yeah...nothing better than having a GUI versus a "i hope to hell it's doing what it's supposed to be doing" .vbs file...i wouldn't consider it to be a full fledges (compiled) programming...its scripting with a twist...the twist is...it has no security restraints....as the ie browser....and to add...i've never seen hta in its OWN spot...usually in a code bank...or .vbs...or .html...because of the hybrid thing going on....i started to create a site that was dedicated to .htas...simply because of the rarity....you can get pretty creative w/ these

Do you feel it would fit in well as a subforum of HTML?

this is an example of a GUI(.hta) that will parse a raw log file generated by NETIQ Active Directory migration tool....i of course stripped replace workstations with bogus ones...i also cut out 90 % of the dump...so just the last date does not have a range...but you'll still get the idea.. those out there that have migrated thousands of users and had to migrate them and view a massive log file to check the status....this .hta does this for you....it's simplistic...but what it does speaks volumes

I was unable to open the HTA file. Kept getting a script error. I tell you what...how about we start off making it a sub forum of the Code Samples forum. You can post some samples and we can see if it takes off. If so...we'll dedicate a forum to HTA help. How does that sound?
