| Hello, I am in the process of creating an inventory database. We use Quickbooks here and it doesn't support multiple warehouses, therefore, we are in need of another database system that can handle the multiple warehouses outside of Quickbooks. We have actually purchased a proprietary program that does this for us and it has an access backend. It works great but doesn't give us the options we need to manage our inventory and is a little expensive to support so I am in the process of creating a database that will meet our needs. I have about a year to get this done (that's the time our yearly maintenance runs out) and am confident I can get it done in the time frame. The only thing I don't have a clue about and would like to start studying now is: How do I connect the database to quickbooks to update the inventory changes? Thanks, Chris |

| Hi Chris, This all depends on how QuickBooks stores the data. If it's just a text file on the computer, then you will have to tap into the FileSystemObject to read the data from the file. I don't know much about QuickBooks, but if you find out how they store the data, we might be able to guide you further.

| Hey Jim... Thanks for the quick reply. Actually I was online searching google at the time you replied and I had just found a good answer to my question: ODBC and QuickBooks 4: Tables and Microsoft Access Software This is a five part article teaching the basics of ODBC and how it relates to Quickbooks and how to install the drivers for Quickbooks to work with ODBC. It also has a section on importing a table into Access. Now, I think I can figure it out from here but decided to post this to help others that might have this same question.
